Sultanpur Depot to Receive 15 New Buses; Services to Resume on Rural Routes

Sultanpur: Public transport in Sultanpur district is set for a major boost as the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) will soon add 15 new buses to the Sultanpur depot’s fleet. These buses will primarily operate on long-neglected rural routes, providing much-needed connectivity to villagers.

At present, the depot operates 91 corporation-owned buses and 64 contracted buses. Several rural areas have been without roadways bus services for years, forcing passengers to depend on unregulated private vehicles.

To address this gap, the transport corporation has decided to introduce bus services under the Mukhyamantri Janata Seva initiative. These rural-route buses will operate at 20% lower fares. Assistant Regional Manager (ARM) Suresh Chandra Yadav had earlier sent a proposal for resuming services on rural routes, which has now been approved by the state government.

According to the ARM, the depot will soon receive 15 new 42-seater buses. These will operate as Janata Seva buses at reduced fares, and the government will finalise the specific rural routes to be covered.

Villagers Welcome the Move

The announcement of the new buses has been met with excitement by rural passengers. Residents Anurag Chaubey and Anupam Singh from Karoondikalan said they travel to the district headquarters four days a week and often have to rely on unsafe private vehicles due to the absence of roadways buses. The new services, they said, will make travel easier and safer.

Similarly, Babbal Singh and Tribhuwan Nath from Baldirai expressed relief, noting that frequent travel to Lucknow and Sultanpur for work becomes difficult without reliable bus services. With Janata Seva buses on the road, villagers hope to avoid overcrowded and risky private transport.

The new fleet is expected to significantly improve transportation options and ease travel for thousands of rural commuters in Sultanpur district.
