Pratapgarh–Lucknow MEMU Passenger Train Likely to Resume Operations in the New Year

Pratapgarh. The Pratapgarh–Lucknow MEMU passenger train, which was suspended during the Covid-19 period, is likely to resume operations in the New Year, bringing relief to thousands of daily commuters. Railway authorities have completed the work of track doubling and electrification on the route, paving the way for the possible restoration of the service.

According to railway sources, the process to restart the MEMU service has already been initiated. A proposal related to the resumption of the train has been sent to the railway headquarters, and once the necessary approval is granted, the official timetable will be issued.

Before its suspension, the MEMU passenger train used to cover the Pratapgarh–Lucknow route in approximately 4 hours and 55 minutes. With halts at several small and medium-sized stations along the way, the train was particularly popular among daily commuters. Its affordable fare made it a preferred choice for students, salaried employees, and small traders, who relied on the service for regular travel.

Following the discontinuation of the MEMU during the pandemic, passengers were forced to depend on buses and other train services, resulting in increased travel costs and longer journey times. The absence of the MEMU service was especially felt by commuters from intermediate stations.

If restarted, the MEMU passenger train will significantly benefit passengers from several parts of Amethi district, including Amethi, Gauriganj, Bani, Jais, Talakhajuri, and nearby areas. The restoration of the service is expected to improve connectivity, reduce travel expenses, and ease daily commuting for residents of the region.

Passengers and local residents are hopeful that the railway authorities will grant approval soon, allowing the MEMU passenger to once again become a lifeline for thousands traveling between Pratapgarh and Lucknow.
